Mobile Multimedia at Its Best: The Sony Ericsson Satio

Mobile Multimedia at Its Best: The Sony Ericsson Satio

The new Sony Ericsson Satio’s selling point is definitely its super powerful 12-Megapixel camera. It is equipped with the most advanced features such as autofocus, a xenon LED flash, Touch focus, face & smile detection, and geo-tagging. It can also shoot photos at an amazing 4000 x 3000-pixel resolution. Although this is definitely its claim to fame, Sony Ericsson has also gone a step further by ensuring an amazing full multimedia experience on their newest Smartphone.

Staying true to previous Sony Ericsson mobile phones, the Satio also has the familiar Media Center menu built in. It still remains to be a very attractive and hassle-free way of accessing one’s multimedia content with just a few clicks. For some reason Sony Ericsson has chosen to minimize the Media Center shortcuts to three main sections – photo, music, and video.

Photo Gallery

Sony Ericsson has always had one of the best image galleries in their mobile phones. The Satio is no exception as its photo gallery also allows full customization, as well as having a whole lot of features. This includes handy functions such as a timeline view of the images and single-click access to the most recent photo taken. The gallery also allows users to tag their photos which give them the ability to organize in multiple albums. Because of the crystal clear screen quality, it is also a joy to view all of these photos in full screen mode.

Keep Walking

The Satio wouldn’t have been a complete multimedia phone if it didn’t have Sony Ericsson’s famed Walkman music player. It comes complete with all the features and extras that make this such a wonderful application; its eye-candy value also remains in full blast. Aside from the usual functions, the Walkman player also has some added features such as Audiobooks and Podcasts. Not only does it allow users to create their own playlists for their specific moods, but the Satio’s Walkman player also has an auto playlist generation feature that automatically creates a playlist for the users depending on a number of pre-set factors.

Video Mode

Among the three multimedia sections, the video player is probably the least impressive. The functionality is quite limited and it does not have most of the features found on other Sony Ericsson mobiles such as screenshot capabilities or slow motion playback. Another downside is that it does not have the ability to play DivX and XviD movies. This is a total bummer as the absence of these popular codecs will require users to convert video files in order to view them on the Satio’s video player. On the brighter side though, the video viewing experience itself is nothing short of excellent.
